EDI Statement

Our lab believes that diversity in experience and ideas strengthens both our lab’s culture and research. We aim to promote diversity in thought so that science can benefit from good ideas no matter who they come from. The research produced by this lab has frequently benefitted from the influence of students who brought new perspectives to our theory. Our lab values open, respectful communication where even difficult conversations can be safely discussed. We promote ongoing in-lab discussion to seek feedback from our members about the current promotion of EDI in the EvoHealth Lab.

In line with the goals of an equitable, diverse, and inclusive lab, we adhere to the following principles:

  1. We actively seek out broad and balanced diversity in the lab.
  2. Based on the democratic principle of distributed and inclusive decision-making, our decision-making process is based on consensus.
  3. We aim to maintain the lab as a safe space where disagreements can be resolved through discourse and cooperation.
  4. We promote the use of scientific principles to address EDI issues.
  5. We aim to foster a culture where conversations and education around prejudice, discrimination, and inequity are a priority.
